Day 1 of the Master Cleanse

lemonsOK, here I go again, or rather we go again. You just can't do the Master Cleanse without a support partner. Dave and I are going for it, a healthy, fresh prelude to jump start the Bowflex regimen we have planned.

This brilliant idea came to me a few weeks ago when we received an invitation to Dave's niece's wedding up in Portland on August 8th. So that means 3 months to pull it together, get the fat off and the muscle toned up! 10 days with a Cleanse to start and then a 6 week BowFlex program, maybe twice? Yeah, why not!

It's the usual story really. We were both not eating the best, especially at night and the pounds came back. Plain and simple. When I see myself in a picture with 2 chins, it's time to re-evaluate my priorities and vanity (who am I kidding?!).

So yesterday I bought the Grade B maple syrup, the cayenne pepper and bags of lemons. Oh, and also the "Smooth Move" herbal tea, can't forget the tea! The Master Cleanse is a complete internal makeover and it's something we have done 3 times before. It lasts 10 days and there is no food, coffee, nothing besides the lemonade you make daily. First thing in the morning you weight yourself, then drink down 16 oz of warm water with 2 tsp. of sea salt. Mmmmm you just gotta psyche yourself into it! I like to say its my chicken broth (whatever gets you through, right?) then with our trusty 64 oz jug from Henry's I squeeze 1 cup of lemon juice, add 1 cup of grade B maple syrup and 1 tsp of cayenne pepper. That's your food for the day and all the water you can handle.

My weight: 203.7 lbs (damn those Easter egg malt balls!)

Mt Laguna hike

Just got back from a little trip with a friend to Mount Laguna.

A friend of mine, Chris, said he wanted to show me these trails he had been to and thought it would be a great place for Dave and I to take our bikes and ride sometime. What an amazing setting and just a hour north east of San Diego.

We followed highway 8 East to the Sunrise Highway, which I had never been on before. It hugged the mountain and winded along for miles, with some major, sweeping views. I loved the mountains, trees and big blue skies; it really reminded me of being up in Montana where one vacation as a kid we hit every Native American reservation we could collecting artifacts, a hobby of mine at the time, but that is for another post.

We stopped at the ranger station where I was able to purchase a 12 month pass to come back and park anywhere in the state park and off we went for our hike. Here are some pictures I took while we hiked in, breathtaking, scenic and so clear and beautiful.

I will have to take Dave sometime soon and bring the Rockhopper mountain bikes and hit the trails. Later we will drive a little further north and have lunch in Julian.

Quote of the day!

"I know a lot of people who used to be gay; I don’t know anybody who used to be black."

- Miss California Carrie Prejean's preacher, pastor Miles McPherson.

Well I beg to differ... look below!

SPOILER ALERT... some of these are truly scary!

Here are some other crazies who took the nip and tuck a bit too far:

Jackie Stallone

The surname might have given it away, but this is Hollywood actor Sylvester Stallone’s mother. Famous for claiming she can talks to dogs about the future, she also once set up a psychic hotline which would charge callers for advice. Now she’s relatively famous for what looks like a little too much plastic surgery.

Jackie Stallone.

Donatella Versace

Brother of the late famous Italian fashion designer Gianni Versace and a fashion designer herself, it’s a pity that Donatella couldn’t design her own face, or – depending on your opinion of the clothes she makes – maybe that’s a good thing.

Donatella Versace.

Pete Burns

Former frontman of the British band Dead or Alive, Pete is most famous for having sung the song “You Spin Me Round (Like A Record)”. Pete has since had extensive cosmetic surgery performed on his face, as you can probably guess.

Michael Jackson

I just had to post one again! I especially like the nose debris... But honestly, does this really need to be explained?

Michael Jackson.

Carrot Top

Scott Thompson, the comedian, is better known by his stage name of Carrot Top and is famous for his hair and particular brand of prop comedy. Also, probable surgery.

Carrot Top.

Dennis Avner

Also known by his Native American name of Stalking Cat, this man has undergone incredible extensive surgery in order to look like his totem animal, the tiger. Modifications include: extensive tattooing, transdermal implants to allow whiskers to be worn, subdermal implants to change the shape of the face and the filing and shaping of the teeth to make them look more like a tiger’s.

Tl;dr? This is man…Who wants to be a cat.

Dennis Avner.

Amanda Lepore

The first four letters of her name might give the game away, as Amanda was originally born a man. Famous for fashion, partying and modeling, as well as having undergone extensive surgery to change genders.

Amanda Lepore.

Michaela Romanini

Famous for…I’m not sure exactly what. But don’t you agree that Italian socialite Michaela has a face that isn’t going to be forgotten any time soon?

I’ll stick with Papa Johns thank you.

Here is some amazing footage of some unscrupulous employees, who have since been fired, from Dominos Pizza. They make it special, just for you!

How much is too much? Take a look…

I've read about her over the years, I've seen the ongoing progression of her plastic surgeries in photos, and it amazes me that Jocelyn Wildenstein manages to go out in public. She is the epitome of plastic surgery gone wild. Does anyone know the name of her doctor?

jocelynwildenstein
A conversation with her about plastic surgery would be fascinating, because she allegedly has had $4 million dollars of it. You’d bring up a more rarely performed procedure like a body lift and she’d perkily volunteer, ’Had it! Loved it. Recommend it. It changed my life.’

I give her credit for following her dream and having the courage to go out in public, but can't imagine her looking in the mirror and saying, "yes, this is exactly what I wanted, this is beauty!" Jocelyn Wildenstein must have a great body image, because she obviously does not see what the rest of the world sees when she looks in that mirror and she just keeps getting more and more plastic surgery.

A quick run down for those of you who do not know her:

Jocelyn grew up in a middle class family in Switzerland. There she became a skilled hunter and pilot. She eventually met and married billionaire art collector Alec Wildenstein. Ms. Wildenstein famously embarked on a radical amount of cosmetic procedures after fearing her billionaire art dealer husband would leave her. The socialite has been nicknamed the Bride of Wildenstein and dubbed the world's scariest celebrity by a plastic surgery website.

Bizarrely she based her remodeled look on exotic wild cats, which he loved and even had his own private jungle, as she decided that he might find her more attractive if she became "more feline". The first time Wildenstein saw his newly-sculpted wife, he was said to have screamed in horror, unable to recognize her. It's claimed he said: "She seems to think that you fix a face the same way you fix a house."

After finding her husband in bed with a 19-year-old Russian model, she divorced him and was awarded millions of dollars.

Sad that with all that money should did not seek therapy over a disfigurement, but then again, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Preach it Tony!

news-graphics-2007-_652018a

The former British Prime Minster has called for a "quiet revolution in thinking," suggesting that the Pope might not be as in touch with public opinion as he could be.

Especially when it comes to homosexuality!

Blair says, "There are many good and great things the Catholic Church does, and there are many fantastic things this Pope stands for, but I think what is interesting is that if you went into any Catholic Church, particularly a wellattended one, on any Sunday here and did a poll of the congregation, you’d be surprised at how liberal-minded people were."

Blair converted to Catholicism in 2007.

The new convert says, "When people quote the passages in Leviticus condemning homosexuality, I say to them — if you read the whole of the Old Testament and took everything that was there in a literal way, as being what God and religion is about, you’d have some pretty tough policies across the whole of the piece."

Traveling on behalf of the Tony Blair Faith Foundation, which aims to promote understanding of different faiths, Blair says he believes it is time for religious leaders to reevaluate their texts as more metaphorical than literal, and come to terms with homosexuality, because that's the direction the next generation is moving in anyway.

He says, "I think there is a generational shift that is happening. If you talk to the older generation, yes, you will still get a lot of pushback, and parts of the Bible quoted, and so on. But if you look at the younger generation of evangelicals, this is increasingly for them something that they wish to be out of — at least in terms of having their position confined to being anti-gay."

A dose of irony

There’s nothing better then tender loving care.

spa_massage_mastheadA big thank you to my friend Kirk who is a sales rep for AVEDA and hooked me up with some excellent coupons to try out a massage at this salon in Del Mar. The name of the place is the Carlton Hair/Ecotique salon and was it impressive.

Well, I must say I have traveled around the world and this was simply the most enjoyable (besides my first in the Bahamas!) facial and massage experience. Because of the discount Dave and I took full advantage and booked both due to the fact that only one massage therapist was there, and why just sit around and wait, right? So while I was getting and incredible Ecotique Spa Facial and aromatherapy session with Erin, Dave had a Deep Tissue Massage with Judy. Then we each switched rooms to enjoy the next phase.

I love the experience of soft light, soft music and the scent of oranges and geranium. From steam to clean, to warm smooth stones placed over your body... an experience with hot oil not to be missed. Pampered and feeling good we floated back to a steam bath and shower.

Now that's a Sunday afternoon!

If you can, book an appointment today, I've posted their information below.
