Don’t let those eyebrows fool you!
At first I thought, what kind of cruel spectacle is this going to be, and its another "watch the crazy" moment, but it's not. This had me near tears, especially after going to a great spiritual breakfast this morning and hearing the most amazing speakers at the San Diego Spring Round Up. Take a look and listen...
I love the underdog and triumph over others thinking... again, another lesson learned that you can't judge a book by it's cover.
Up close with Adele
Someone I have been listening to for the past two years and recently had the opportunity to see live is the English soul singer-songwriter Adele.
I came across this little interview video and thought I'd pass it on. She seems a very grounded, down-to-earth girl in the crazy world of music. I pray she stays that way.
I even have made a tribute website for her, hope you enjoy!
Madonna refused adoption in Malawi
Saturday Night Live did a spoof on Madonna's recent attempt to adopt. High-larious, especially Angelina's one uppers!
The High Court in Lilongwe refused the star's application to adopt four-year-old orphan Mercy James. She felt the need to adopt another child from the AIDS ravaged country after numerous friends mentioned that her other adoptive son David needed someone with the same background.
The judge believed that the adoption would promote child trafficking, explaining, "By removing the very safeguard that is supposed to protect our children, the courts by their pronouncements could actually facilitate trafficking of children by some unscrupulous individuals who would take advantage of the weakness of the law of the land."
Mercy James' uncle, Peter Baneti, even supports his niece being adopted by Madonna. "We as a family discussed this and agreed that it is in the best interests of Mercy to have her adopted, so why should the judge stop this if the family is OK with it?" argued Baneti.
Mercy's birth father, James Kambewa, does not believe the adoption is the right path for his daughter, stating, "I bear no grudge against Madonna. But I am Mercy's father and I want her to stay with me… I will make it plain that my daughter will be staying in Malawi with me."
I guess the real question remains, "So why is your daughter in an orphanage?"
Swap Meet Adventures & Priceless Treasures
It's said a picture is worth a thousand words, but at the San Diego Swap Meet, you could pick it up for a buck. After getting out into the beautiful weekend weather, we went for a stroll and a few laughs at one of our favorite people watching sites. Here are some of the things and people one may run into while wandering the rows, enjoy. (Click to enlarge)
Holy smokes!
One of my favorite ganja smoking pop stars, George Michael, who has made more headlines for bathroom shenanigans and being found asleep at the wheel lately than music, made the rounds from 2006 through 2008 on a farewell tour that made some serious cash. £48 million to be exact.
He was back on stage after a 15-year absence for his '25 Live' tour, which involved 50 concerts across Europe, North America and Canada.
Unfortunately for me I was not one of the lucky to see that tour. The seats were just far too expensive and I wish I had the money to see him as he has always been one of my top singer/songwriters.
The 'Faith' singer's latest account receipts show he earned £48,499,893 between April 2006 and March 2008. This figure doesn't even include income from his record sales or songwriting.
The 45-year-old star also earned millions from playing private shows for some of the world's wealthiest people. It's reported that on New Year's Eve 2006, George was paid £1.6 million to perform 13 songs at a party for Russian nickel magnate Vladimir Potanin and a few months later was given £1.5 million to sing at the 55th birthday party of Sir Philip Green, the owner of British fashion store Topshop.
Music to my ears!
Yea, the incredible Diana Krall, one of Canada's best exports next to fellow velvet-voiced crooner Michael Bublé, has a new album coming!
If you pre-order it, iTunes lets you download the single "Walk On By" instantly. Yes, I already did, and I asked on her Facebook site for her to come to San Diego, too.
Last time she toured, Dave and I went up and had the experience of seeing her live at the Hollywood Bowl. Amazing performer, singer, pianist. When she does the classics of smooth jazz and blues it is trancendant and takes you to a better place where your cares are not so important.
Diana will be performing LIVE in NEW YORK CITY on March 31!
The FREE musical performance to celebrate the release of the new album Quiet Nights will take place at the World Financial Center - Winter Garden.
For those lucky enough to be there, you'll be able to see Diana accompanied by a 30-piece orchestra.
Latest song on repeat…
OK I just can't get enough of this song by Taylor Swift. I'm not a huge Country music fan (please don't stop reading if you are not either) but "You're Not Sorry" is a remix from her album entitled Fearless. It snuck up on me as I heard it first, than found out who sang it, then realized it was THAT Taylor Swift. This version is so hypnotic, trance-like and haunting; not the usual "lost-my-dog-and-my-wife-left-me-for-my-best-friend-and-took-my-truck" country music song in any form.
The song coincides with her acting stint on the show CSI. It has been on repeat here in my office for awhile now; enough for me to post this item I guess. She is only 19 years old and I am feeling old. All these amazing talents are getting younger and younger.
Taylor Swift is the latest in a string of singer/songwriters to make the scene. Granted she came onto the Nashville circuit 2 years ago and wowed the audience with an amazing show stopping finale at the CMAs last year, but it seems like today she is being groomed more to the tune of Shania Twain for the pop cross-over. Bigger market means bigger bucks.
The hair and makeup tends to go from mature chantuese in elegant dresses to a young tween experiencing the latest trends. A cameleon of a talent with hopefully staying power for more of our enjoyment.
Crazy Still Sells… shamore, eeeheee!
OK, call me crazy, but this is pretty amazing! If you haven't heard the latest news on the King of Pop Michael Jackson then here it is for you:
Initially he was going to do 10 shows in London this summer and they went like free beer at a football game.... FAST. Then yesterday they released tickets for a unbelievable extension of more shows. So now all 50, yes that's right 50, of Jackson's shows at London's O2 Arena have completely sold out in several hours! Some are going for sale on eBay for as much as $14,000!
It is reported he will make between $50-70 million off these shows alone. That's not including merchandising either. I wonder if they will be selling that Jesus Juice he talked about?
I'll watch the mayhem and crazy from over here and keep my pleasant memories of him safe within.
Adele – A Breath of Fresh Music
Hey I just got back from seeing two-time Grammy winner Adele hit the stage at the House of Blues in San Diego! She has an amazing range, incredible voice and was a delight to see live. She displayed so much humility and appeared as surprised by her recent wins and the audiences reaction to her being on stage that you don't see very often in the limelight business.
What is refreshing is she is all about the music and her influences, such as Etta James, and not a tabloid favorite like the notorious Amy Winehouse. She would rather be known for her music than what she is wearing and who she was with last night; talent - but without the drugs and drama. Her soulful stylings and raw talent, with help from the remarkable producer Mark Ronson, should have her recording for a while. It's also amazing that her first album's name "19" reflects her age at the time of her writing the songs. Go see her if you can.
