Avatar and James Cameron Rule the World
After only 17 days in release, Avatar from director James Cameron and 20th Century Fox, will have revenues for domestic at $352.1 million. And with an international total of $670.2 million. Its worldwide box office figure should be $1.02 billion coming out of this weekend.
And the film already is the second highest grossing film released in 2009. Hollywood.com says the IMAX showings were off the chart with a global total of $66.4 million - the highest ever for an initial IMAX release.
He will hold the title for the top two highest grossing films of all time. Mind you this one cost quite a bit more, but 2 films grossing over a billion dollars is amazing on any level, especially as Avatar has only been in release for 17 days!
I recently spent an hour and a half waiting in line for the IMAX version and personally wasn't impressed. We went the first week of screenings and saw it in 3D and was blown away. Both my partner and I didn't feel much was different visually at the IMAX release today.
